Start with service volume
Filter coffee planning should track how much coffee is brewed and how much is served. A café brewing to order has a different consumption pattern from a hotel breakfast service or an office preparing batches. Counting purchased packs alone does not explain daily demand.
Record the machine, water input per batch, recipe and service hours. A recipe expressed per litre may refer to brewing water rather than finished beverage. Water retained by the coffee bed means the final drink volume can differ. Measure the actual beverage yield when planning portions.
Track brewed and served coffee separately
For one week, record the coffee dose, beverage output and unserved remainder for each batch. Separate weekdays with different demand. Mark meetings, events or occupancy changes instead of hiding them inside a single average.
The record can reveal whether the same large batches continue into quieter hours. Match batch size to demand while maintaining the intended drink quality.
A monthly purchasing example
Assume an illustrative recipe of 65 g per litre of brewing water, eight batches a day and 26 operating days a month:
- Daily coffee use: 8 × 65 g = 520 g.
- Monthly coffee use: 520 g × 26 = 13.52 kg.
- Measure beverage output to establish actual portions per batch.
The 65 g recipe is an example; use a recipe suitable for your coffee and equipment. The monthly result applies to these assumptions. Deduct usable stock and incoming orders before deciding a new purchase quantity.
Account for unserved coffee once
When some brewed coffee remains unserved, a forecast based only on sold cups can understate usage. Compare prepared and served volumes. Consider whether smaller, more frequent batches fit your machine and service workflow.
Avoid counting the same loss twice. A calculation based on actual batches already includes the coffee used in those batches. Additional loss should cover only measured coffee use outside that record.
Match the product to the brewing setup
Consider whole beans when you have a suitable grinder, or a ground option compatible with your brewing system. Compare Filter Select and the pure Arabica Filter Reserve using your own recipe and service conditions.
